Charlotte Colbert

Charlotte Colbert (b. 1987) is a multimedia artist and award-winning film director, described by The London Standard as a “born sorceress.” Her practice encompasses art installations combining sculpture, photography, performance, and feature-length films. Colbert’s directorial debut was praised by The New York Times and won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival.The artist has sometimes been described as “the child of Salvador Dalí and Emily Dickinson.” Grounded in philosophy, Colbert’s artistic practice explores themes of narrative, time, identity, dreams, and the unconscious. For her, surrealism and fantasy are ways of seeing reality anew, as well as impulses to ask questions and reimagine the world.She is the author of large-scale public installations in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy. Colbert’s works have been presented in galleries, at art fairs, and in institutions around the world, including the V&A Museum (London), UTA Artist Space (Los Angeles), MO.CO. Montpellier Contemporain, Frieze London, and Art Basel Hong Kong. She has collaborated with luxury brands such as Four Seasons, The Conran Shop, and Alexander McQueen, as well as with acclaimed artists including Kate Nash, Isobel Waller-Bridge, Cillian Murphy, Malcolm McDowell, Rupert Everett, Lily Cole, Clint Mansell, and Omar Sy.
