The work by Charlotte Colbert, a British multimedia artist, refers to the words of poet Emily Dickinson: “I am out with lanterns looking for myself,” from her correspondence with the writer and critic Thomas Wentworth Higginson. In her sculpture, the artist playfully evokes the nature of fairy tales – stories of journeys, quests for identity, and beginnings that cast light and point the way for our further travels.
In Out with Lanterns, the artist imagines a small, angelic heroine facing enormous waves that transform into swan-like creatures.
